Todos Santos has 2 modern international airports within reasonable driving distance. |
|||
![]() Marquez de Leon Airport - La Paz, BCS |
|||
| One international airport is in the state capital of La Paz (LAP) and is about a 1 hour drive from Todos Santos. Both Mexican and US carriers service this airport, although the bulk of the US carriers use LAP sparingly except during the high tourist season. Flights from the US west coast and Phoenix arrive in La Paz year round. This airport is small, almost cozy but it has been recently remodeled and the highways from LAP to La Paz' central areas have been rebuilt. Rental cars are available from all the major firms at the airport. Buses also run regularly from the airport to downtown La Paz and from there to Todos Santos. | |||

The second international airport is located just outside of San Jose del Cabo (SJD) and is often called "Los Cabos" airport. This airport has undergone extensive expansion and renovation since the federal government sold it to private investors. |
|||
|
|||
The original terminal has been remodeled and expanded while a new completely modern terminal has been built which houses Alaska Airlines and their partners, including Delta and Northwest. All major carriers use this airport year round, including Mexicana, Aero California, Continental, United, American, and America West. |

Just in time for the 2002 APEC
meeting in Los Cabos, a new toll road was completed to SJD. This road
cuts 20 minutes each way off the travel time from Todos Santos so the
airport is now about 1 1/2 hours away. Taxis and buses are always available
to take visitors to hotels along the corridor or into Cabo San Lucas where
other buses are available for the trip to Todos Santos. A one way taxi
ride from SJD to Todos Santos is somewhat negotiable but typically costs
around $100 US. All major car rental firms are represented in SJD.

| Baja has no railroad system, so there is no passenger service. Buses run from Tijuana to Los Cabos on very frequent and regular schedules. Ferry service from the mainland is also available with dockings at Santa Rosalia and La Paz. However, in recent years, ferry service has become quite expensive. | |||
| Most tourists visiting Todos Santos fly into either LAP or SJD. A rental car is highly recommended, especially if you plan on exploring the nearby beaches or mountains. Many internet travel sites, e.g. expedia.com and travelocity.com, offer discounted rates on car rentals. Keep in mind that you must have Mexican insurance while you drive a rental and your US insurance will NOT cover you in Mexico. You might check with your credit card company as some gold and platinum cards will cover your insurance in Mexico and allow you to waive the expensive extra coverage. You don't need a 4WD vehicle unless you plan to go off road in the mountains. | |||
|
Please don't drive on the beaches. Not only is it against federal law, but it kills habitat and destroys endangered turtles' nests. |
|||
| You can get to your destination without harming the fragile beach environment. | |||
|
Todos Santos is located on the Tropic of Cancer in the
southern portion of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico just one hour
north of Cabo San Lucas and one hour south of La Paz. Long known as a cultural, artistic and agricultural center, the town is a desert oasis, 1 kilometer from the Pacific Ocean at the foothills of the Sierra de La Laguna mountains. Since the mid 1980's, the area has become a tourist / retirement destination and home to numerous art galleries, artists, fine restaurants, elegant hotels, unique vacation rentals and local festivals. |
